Sartorial splendour at rugby 7s

By Leave a Comment Filed Under: Sartorialism and style

For sporting sartorialism, it’s hard to beat a rugby 7s tournament. The recent Byron Bay 7s was no exception with the women and the men turning out in an array of eye-catching strips. Elegant, awesome, colourful, original, hilarious and stupid are just some of the adjectives that spring to mind. Take a look and comment on the ones you liked the best.

The “Where’s Wally” team were certainly one of my favourites, though, unlike Wally, they were pretty easy to spot in the crowd.
How stylish is this purple and gray strip? The women from ACU ripped!
Despite the horrors foisted on us by the Wallabies over the years, this bloke shows us that green and gold can actually look pretty schmick. Ifira Blackbirds are go!
I’ve just got no idea what this is all about… other than it is pretty cool.
Crackin’ sidestep to go with the uniform.
Silver, black and gold. You can’t get more stylish than that!
My mate, Sean, from Aussie Bums, wouldn’t be impressed with the opposition getting in on the act but the “Smugglers” crew added to the fun and style of the week-end.
It’s hard to beat this kit for down right originality. Great job “Golden Pippies.”
This tropical masterpiece had to be one of the best kits on show.
Its hard to go past black and gold.
Now there is a snappy spin on traditional camo
Green, white and black bands. Simple and elegant!
Bee look.
Blue and white bands. Classic. Schmick! Would the Bay wear anything other than stylish!
White with dark piping! Excellent.
The Nation 7 women not only won the tournament but looked awesome in their traditional design.
Sky blue with dark piping. Subtle but effective.
Like dark lords. Black with subtle contrasting piping. Freaking great!
The Bond Uni crew look slick in their duo-tone strip in navy and gold.
Wouldn’t pick jade and black to turn out this striking. Great strip!
Two different attempts on reinterpreting the traditional Parramatta gold on blue.
More exceptional work from Budgie Smuggler.
It wouldn’t be right having a tournament without “My Little Pony” putting in an appearance.
Horns? Oh, yeah. I get it. The Bulls! Cool outfits, too.
I’m not sure which team won the best uniform competition but something must have gone seriously wrong if this celebration of “Oktoberfest” wasn’t the winner. This is the best rugby uniform I have ever seen. In fact, close to the best sports uniform I have ever seen. Possibly second only to the Colorado Caribous Soccer team.
