SOCRATES
Socrates was an ancient Greek philosopher and athlete born in the year 469 B.C. He was a particularly poor rugby fly-half, a second rate basketball shooting-guard, a back of the field middle-distance runner and a welter-weight boxer who never actually won a fight. That being said he had the best set of vocal chords in the world of ancient sport and he had a formidable brain to go with it. He may not have won many sporting contests but he never lost an argument! His sporting philosophy throughout his life and career was… think… ask questions… then speak! Socrates may have been short, fat, slow, clumsy and some may even have been unkind enough to call him ugly but despite his lack of sporting prowess he didn’t need to look and play like a quarter-back to make a huge name for himself. He spent an entire career preaching to sports fans, administrators, players and referees that sport was not just for jocks and numb-skulls… it was for all of us! Socrates joins us as our senior sporting analyst and reviewer.
TIM EDWARDS
Tim Edwards had a sporting career not unlike his friend Socrates’. Despite his lack of skills and accomplishments he has maintained a personal commitment to sport as a key aspect of a physically and mentally healthy lifestyle for most of his life. Tim’s working life has included times as a management trainer, a gym instructor, a sales and marketing person, a publisher, a non-profit organization development manager, a cinema owner, a sports management lecturer, a writer, a sports coach and a publishing consultant. He has coached sports teams and studied the pedagogical aspects of coaching both professionally and as a volunteer for most of his adult life. Tim loves most sports but is particularly gaga about surfing, rugby, soccer, American football, basketball, snow sports and netball. He is a zealot for women’s sport and teaching kids athletic skills. Tim joins us as a reviewer, writer as well as contributing editor. Many consider Tim an opinionated idiot – an accusation that he does not deny.
