Hoopsters were out in force at the sports centre again last Thursday… yet again proving that when it comes to best-dressed athletes, basketball has it over the rest. Who cares if you can’t jump. It’s style that really counts. That being said, most of this lot can jump. And shoot. And dribble. And pass.

s23 — I think someone gobbed on my favourite shirt!

s25 — Reid’s jump shot. What we have here is well over 400 kilograms of basketball muscle in the one shot. I, for one, wouldn’t want to be in the middle of this lot.

s24 — Let this be a lesson, Luke. If you are going to give Brett this much room in the lane, this is what he is going to do to you.

s18 — Pyney must have been stung by last week’s panning. Check out how good he looks this week.

s19 — I hope someone is driving the base line or this is going to look pretty silly.

Chris calls a tech foul against himself for tripping a player on the break!

“Robbie… where do you score a tech foul against the ref on the score sheet?”

When it comes to sartorialism Sam is about good as it gets.

Look. Up in the sky. Its a bird. Its a plane. Its Alvin hanging from the hoop!

s11 — I swear. Alvin has got vampire or werewolf blood or something. As one of the coolest dressers I tried to take a picture about twenty times and none of them came out.

s14 — I know you think I am a nice guy, Alvin, but the little half-smile is a front. I’m about to come down and tread on you!

s12 — I won the best-dressed comp last week so Pyne sticks a dead rat in my boot.

s15 — This is a slick hoops outfit… but the shorts (which were almost fleuro) came out all washed out.

s20 — Not sure if Jason is sealing or defending here. Don’t care really. He can do whatever he wants.

s28 — Luke picking on (boxing out) Alvin. Next possession I bet Alvin canes him off the dribble.

s29 — Luke crosses over for the penetration.

s31 — Gotta say this was a sweet finish against strong defence.

s27 — A bit low on the block to trouble Reid and Luke on the double team.

Cross-over coming up and defender wrong-footed.

s16 — Back in my day, the people I played against were tall… but frail! These days real blokes play the game. Probably a good thing I am too old to play.

s22 — Thunder have a long history of ugly but, at least, unusual, uniforms. I strangely like them.

Sam goes right and beats his man. I thought he should have gone left. Show how much I know.

Weighing up the option. Cross-over! Go left!

Tim Edwards has had a completely rubbish sporting career so it is odd that he seems so obsessed with sport and adventuring. As a basketball shooting guard he had an okay jump shot but couldn't do anything else. As a rugby hooker he spent more time puking then actually playing. As a runner he won an awful lot of consolation prize chocolates for coming fourth but almost never won a ribbon. Despite his inadequacies he still loves sport and has opinions on almost any sporting subject. Tim has spent large parts of his working life in publishing and writing roles and has even done his share of teaching sport management to Uni students. He has coached more sports teams than he cares to remember. Tim is an awful surfer and skier but his lack of competence does not bother him one little bit!

One of the greatest cricket “all-rounders” of all time, Keith Miller was not only an exceptional performer in multiple elements of test cricketing (batting, bowling and fielding) but he was also gifted in numerous other aspects of his life. Witty, entertaining, handsome, a renowned war time pilot and gifted Australian Rules Footballer, Miller was famed for calling a spade a spade and acknowledging that there was much more to life than elite sports. Celtic football coach Ange Postecoglou’s post League Cup interview avoided the normal “we knew we had to…”, “full credit to the boys…” and “we talked about blah blah blah during the week…” bollocks that is so common in post-match player and coach chats with the media. The coach actually revealed important insights into the way great coaches think and how they seek to get the best out of their players. Any coach aspiring to become a great coach, no matter what sport they teach should listen to this interview. Postecoglou is the real deal. There are few coaches better at getting the most out of their team.
